We are proud to say that our first landlord is still with us and experience has shown people become landlords for many reasons. At Malcolms we aim to provide a friendly knowledgeable service that can be tailored to whatever the need of the landlord.

Like many people who are self-employed, I donāt have the benefit of an employerās pension scheme. After several years of running my own business, I started to think more seriously about my long-term financial security. Thatās when I realised I needed to put a plan in place for the future.
Instead of paying into a traditional pension, I decided to invest in property. Buying a second home to rent out felt like the right choice for me ā not only could it provide a steady monthly income now, but it also acts as a long-term investment for when I eventually retire.
Becoming a landlord has given me peace of mind. I know that my property is working for me in the background, building equity over time, while also giving me regular rental income. Unlike other forms of saving, I can see and manage my investment directly ā and thereās something reassuring about knowing itās a real, tangible asset.
Of course, being a landlord comes with its responsibilities, from maintaining the property to making sure my tenants are happy and secure. Thatās why working with a letting agent has been invaluable. They take the stress out of managing the day-to-day side of things, leaving me free to focus on my business while knowing my property is in good hands.
For me, property investment isnāt just about money ā itās about building stability and creating a pension plan that suits the way I work and live.
When I decided to buy my first buy to let, I approached my local estate agent. They gave me advice on locations, types of tenants the properties would attract and most importantly yield. I viewed several homes and bought through them. Amazingly 6 years later I still have the same tenant!
Subsequently, I have moved up market with my partner, buying through that same agent, and letting my previous home with them too.
