How to be moved by Christmas so that you can enjoy the festive time in your new home

Prepare for Christmas

Yes, it’s great to be spontaneous and grasp every opportunity life has to offer but sometimes planning really helps.

Many times my husband has teased me about starting the Christmas shopping in October- an excuse to buy more, he would claim! No, just a way of avoiding the mad panics especially with young children when the latest “Must have” will sell out.

Even the manic food shop when we all buy enough to feed the whole street for a month and not the family for 2 days.

But for me, being prepared has always made Christmas more enjoyable, it can be fun starting to think about it early, rather than letting  the 24 hours of Christmas day be over so quickly. I have always tried to enjoy the choosing of presents and the wrapping, after all they are opened in seconds.

Why You Need to Start Now

If you are thinking of moving to that new home for Christmas and kicking off the New Year with a great start, you need to make preparations now.

Interestingly, one of Rightmove’s most read blogs in August 2015 was their 2011 article in which they advised sellers seeking to move by Christmas to act in September, as it was taking 94 days on average to sell a home. In 2015, we have just experienced our strongest August since the Credit Crunch with homes selling within 14 days. Nevertheless, September remains the best time to start the selling process if you want to move before Christmas.

Yes, the market is buoyant at the moment with so few properties available, but solicitors and conveyancers are at full stretch with legal work dragging on for 3-4 months. Chains are also being held up where there is no TOP of the chain, the shortage of properties means that many people wanting to move are selling and then not able to find somewhere to move to.

What You Need to Do

Your local estate agent is best placed to discuss market tends with you and availability of new

listings. It’s important to choose someone you feel comfortable with and can trust to convey the reality and feasibility of your needs and timescale. If you want to move by Christmas ACT NOW.
